Head of Finance and Operations - International Independent School (Full-Time, permanent)

The German International School Sydney (GISS) is seeking an experienced, committed, and valued aligned Head of Finance and Operations to join its Senior Leadership team.

The GISS is a small international independent school offering a bilingual education programme (German and English) from Preschool to the bilingual IB-Diploma. It is registered by NESA and accredited by the Federal Republic of Germany as a German School Abroad. About the role:

The Head of Finance and Operations is a senior executive leader responsible for the general management of the school and is a key member of the senior leadership team at GISS. Leading a team of 9 staff this is a rare opportunity to contribute to the success of the school. The Head of Finance and Operations has a joint reporting line to the School Board on financial and compliance matters and to the principal for matters concerning day-to-day general management of the school. You will enjoy the opportunity to work within a multilingual community in an inclusive environment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Strategically managing the schools' financials; this includes the preparation and implementation of the annual budget.
  • Financial reporting including monthly Board reporting
  • Board Company Secretariat Duties
  • Government reporting and compliance
  • Ensuring safe school environment by coordinating WHS practices, compliance, and risk management activities
  • Oversee key HR functions, including employee support, recruitment and ensuring compliance with school policies and employment legislation
  • Leadership of the administration team including, but not limited to, the registrar, marketing and IT department as well as building and grounds keeping staff
  • Fostering positive community and business relations and ensuring the school is positively represented at all times
  • Management of school facilities, maintenance, contractors, and operational logistics
  • Overseeing of school projects or new initiatives

To be successful in this role you will be able to demonstrate:

  • CA or CPA qualification a significant advantage but not essential
  • Previous experience in school or education operational management
  • Working knowledge of accounting practices, HR Management and industrial relations and WHS legislation
  • Proven leadership experience
  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple stakeholders
  • Sound working knowledge of management information systems
  • Excellent English language skills. Whilst not essential, fluency in the German language would be a distinct advantage
  • The ability to work collaboratively with staff, students, and parents
  • WWCC clearance
