No German? No problem. The German International School Sydney (GISS) has started 2026 with its highest student numbers since the school was founded in 1989 – with more Northern Beaches families choosing the school, and no prior knowledge of German required to enrol.
The new school year began with one of Germany’s most cherished traditions, the Zuckertütenfest. Kindergarten students were presented with beautifully decorated “Schultüten” – colourful sugar cones filled with small gifts and school supplies – symbolising a sweet start to their educational journey. The joyful celebration brought together new and returning families and highlighted the school’s strong sense of community.
Now home to more than 440 students from Preschool to Year 12, GISS continues to grow as local families seek small class sizes, strong academic outcomes and a globally minded education. The school blends the NSW curriculum with German and international excellence, culminating in the IB Diploma Programme in Years 11 and 12.
As more Aussie families discover this unique Terrey Hills campus, GISS is proving that bilingual education is accessible, inclusive and a powerful advantage for the future.
