Borussia Dortmund (BVB), one of Europe’s most renowned football clubs, is proud to announce an exciting new partnership with the German International School Sydney (GISS). This collaboration marks a significant milestone in both institutions’ commitment to youth development, education, and football excellence.
With steadily growing student body numbers, GISS is an established international school offering education from Preschool to the International Baccalaureate Diploma in Years 11 and 12. The school offers a broad bilingual curriculum, complemented by a wide range of extracurricular activities, including a flourishing football program.
Acknowledging the growing demand for football and holistic education in Australia and within its school community, GISS is committed to significantly expanding its program. Borussia Dortmund’s expertise in youth development and coaching will play a crucial role in enhancing training structures, providing technical expertise, and sharing the club’s renowned coaching philosophy.
As part of this partnership, Borussia Dortmund will help develop a high-quality football program and support the first concept of a new football pitch at GISS, further solidifying the school’s commitment to fostering sports excellence. The highlight of this cooperation is the permanent placement of a BVB coordinator at GISS, who will lead and oversee the development of the football program.
Other highlights of the partnership include:
• Pathways for student-athletes to participate in exchange programs, experiencing training at BVB’s headquarters in Dortmund
• Inclusive football development for both boys and girls, nurturing talent at all skill levels
• Training camps during school holidays, providing students with additional opportunities to enhance their skills and passion for the game.
“We are thrilled to partner with the German International School Sydney and contribute to the development of young footballers in Australia,” said Dr Suresh Letchmanan, Managing Director BVB Asia Pacific. “This partnership aligns perfectly with our philosophy, and we are excited to be a part of shaping the future of football at GISS.”
GISS Principal, Michael Cordes, expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration: “We are incredibly excited to bring Borussia Dortmund’s world-class football training to our students on the Northern Beaches of Sydney. This partnership aligns with our commitment to holistic education by combining academic excellence with quality athletic development. Our students will not only improve their football skills but also gain invaluable international experiences through the exchange programs and mentorship opportunities.”
Borussia Dortmund has already launched successful partnerships with German schools in Shanghai, Tokyo, Singapore, Bangkok, and Hong Kong. The collaboration with GISS further strengthens BVB’s commitment to supporting German international schools worldwide by promoting football development and education.
