Tuesday Co-curricular Activities - Semester 1, 2023

Art & Craft

Each week you will create your own art or craft work to take home. Try your hand at beading, weaving, sewing or craft. Learn transferable skills that you can build on at home. (Language: English)

Drumming

We will explore Rhythms for djembe, dun duns and percussion instruments. We also sing African songs/chants and play drumming games. There will be a performance at the end of the semester. The students will have lots of fun playing the drums. It is very rewarding for the students to be an important part of a team of drummers. (Language: English / German)

Fairy Tales & Stories *

Are you creative and interested in trying out making your own costumes? In this AG, we will design, plan and make our own costumes. Maybe you will be the winner of the next Halloween parade! The instructional language of this AG is only in German in order to enhance language learning. (Language: German)

Harry Potter *

"We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry." We are excited that the Harry Potter AG will open it’s doors in 2023 and we are now calling all passionate witches and wizards. Based on J.K. Rowling’s world famous series of books, students will enter the magical world of Harry, Ron and Hermione. They will be sorted into their Hogwarts Houses, create their own custom wands, will take Potions Class with Professor Snape, learn how to play Quidditch with Madam Hooch and roam the grounds with Hogwarts’ faithful Keeper of the Grounds, Hagrid. Come and join the magical adventure, the Hogwarts Express is waiting for you! (Language: German)

Indoor / Outdoor Games

Do you like to challenge yourself, work as a team, learn new tactics – all while having fun? Then the GISS Games AG is for you! With Mrs Clark, Mr Crundwell and Miss Polden you are sure to find a game indoors or outdoors (or both!) that will let you run off some steam or channel your tactics .We will play fun outdoor games to encourage teamwork and increase your stamina. We also offer a selection of board and card games to both play and make. Creativity, resilience and a sense of humour is key! (Language: English / German)

Little Scientists *

Are you interested in nature, technology, chemistry, and physics? This is just the right workshop for you! With exciting experiments, you will explore the world of science. Ask questions, formulate hypotheses, develop predictions, gather data, conduct experiments, document findings and share your knowledge with the group. You are on your way to becoming a great scientist! (Language: German)

Mini Enterprisers

The Mini Enterpriser AG addresses the specific needs of new school children. Activities are designed to focus on familiar routines and rituals, making friends, basic numerical and communication skills and emphasise cooperative play and confidence building. Mini Enterprisers role play common business scenarios such as shop keeping, post office, bakery, book shop, through which they will learn about needs vs wants, pocket money, turn taking, counting money and customer service. Mini Master Chef

If you are interested in cooking, happy to try out new things in the kitchen and are keen to look behind the scenes, then Mini Master Chef AG is the right place for you! (Language: English / German)

Nature Club

Do you have a passion for nature? Do you love to be outside, amongst the trees and flowers? Then this AG is for you! Each week we will explore the natural environment in school and in our local community. We will explore and enjoy nature through a variety of activities including nature journaling, nature art, nature photography, bushwalking, nature construction and much more! Come and get your hands dirty and find a piece of mindfulness under the shade of a tree! (Language: English)

Soccer

Be the best, learn from the best - this AG offers a course designed to develop the potential of every child attending. It can enhance their confidence, improve ball skills while ensuring fun and a rewarding experience in every sense. Mr Mihajlovic is the owner and head coach of Youth Soccer Academy, boasting a successful international soccer career and has had a long relationship with our school. (Language: English)

Taekwondo

Taekwondo is a fantastic way to explore and develop lifelong skills. Martial arts not only play an important role in exercise, but also promotes mental and psychological growth. This program provides a fun, challenging environment for the students to discover Taekwondo and all it can offer, whilst helping their confidence and self-control develop through games and challenges both physically and mentally".
Darran McNulty is a certified Australian Taekwondo Coach, a 3rd Dan Black Belt and has been teaching at GISS for the last 10 years. (Language: English)

Tennis

The focus during tennis is on basic hitting techniques and rules of the game. Students will be divided into groups according to their ability. (Language: English)

Musical 

The Musical AG will be working towards a theatre performance in the last week of Term 2. During the practices we will be singing, dancing, play acting and of course laughing! Come along and join in creating our performance. Once you have decided on your favourite character, we can begin learning scripts and songs and making the costumes for the show. If you love the stage, then this is the right AG for you. Please note, the performance will be published on the GISS website and social media. (Language: English / German)

Out&About

Explore the delights of our local community! Each week we will venture out of the school to discover the many playgrounds, bushwalks, parks and beaches that our local community has to offer. Come along to climb, slide, run, jump and splash through the afternoon! (Language: English / German)

Roller Crew

Coaching + play in skateboarding, inline skating and scooter riding. Our sessions teach fundamental skills in each discipline and help build resilience, develop strength and balance while challenging creativity. It's a high energy, fun, safe environment to get your kids rolling! (Language: English)

Scavenger Hunt

Join us as we explore the GISS campus through a weekly scavenger hunt. We will discover all sorts of exciting parts of our school, including various insects and animals! We aim to familiarise ourselves with the grounds at GISS while practising basic orienteering skills and teamwork exercises, so come along for the inaugural GISS scavenger hunt! (Language: English)

School garden

Our School Garden AG promotes learning with all senses. We will continue to plan, establish and care for our school garden. We will also start with some landscaping. The students will be outside, develop their gardening skills and learn to take responsibility. They will acquire skills about native plants and environmentally appropriate behaviour. Most importantly, this AG will foster a sense of enjoyment associated with plants, animals, and natural phenomena. (Language: English / German)

Textile Design *

This AG is intended for children who like to work creatively with textile materials. In this group you will get to know different forms of textile design work with wool and fabrics. By the end of this AG, you will be able to produce your own toys, everyday objects and clothing.
