Learning during COVID-19

GISS COVID-19 Risk Management Plan

This risk management plan is valid for Term 3 of 2021, or until changed or revoked.

To protect the health and safety of our students and staff, all on-campus and in-person activities are on hold until further notice. Any exceptions for activities not listed in this document have to be granted by the principal.

On-campus staff

  • On campus attendance is limited to staff that is required to deliver preschool, after school care (ASC), on campus supervision and essential administrative functions.
  • All staff must wear a face mask at all times including when working outdoors – this includes playgrounds and on school grounds.

    Some exemptions apply:
    • Staff are not required to wear a mask or face covering where it may affect the ability of a student or students to hear or engage with them, such as where students are hard of hearing.
    • Staff are not required to wear a mask where they are alone in an office or classroom.
    • As per the broader health advice, early childhood staff are exempt from wearing face masks when they are working directly with children. However, staff are recommended to wear masks or face coverings otherwise, whenever indoors.
    • Masks or face coverings are not required to be worn by a staff member or student who has a physical or mental health illness or condition, or disability, that makes wearing a mask unsuitable. Refer to Face Mask Rules on the NSW Government website.
  • All staff must sign-in via SwipedOn AND NSW QR Code when entering the campus.
  • Respect the 4sqm social distancing rule and maintain adequate ventilation in all rooms.
  • Do not congregate on campus. All meetings should take place via Teams.
  • If you have any symptoms or have visited an exposure site, do not attend campus, get tested and isolate.
  • Please monitor NSW Health for updated exposure sites and follow health advice on testing and isolation. Please also note that exposure sites in and around the Northern Beaches were recently added.

Staff testing

GISS is implementing surveillance testing to further reduce the chance of inadvertent transmission. All staff members who regularly attend campus or have regular student contact should have a weekly COVID-19 test. This applies to the following groups:

  • Preschool staff
  • ASC staff
  • Campus supervision staff
  • Any other staff member & contractor who comes in to contact with students or is working on campus on a regular basis (essential admin workers, managers, cleaners, catering staff, bus drivers)

Staff members that have received both doses of a COVID-19 vaccine do not need to have a weekly test. We strongly recommend you get tested, even if you come to campus sporadically, and especially if you live in an area of increased testing.

As per NSW Health advice, you should not need to self-isolate if getting tested only for screening purposes. Testing can be done at any time during the week. St. Ives offers a very convenient COVID-19 drive-through test. Please submit results to Susan Wilhelm upon receipt.

Students on campus

  • GISS remains open to those families who need it.
  • Parents are being reminded that students may not be sent to school if:
    • they have the slightest cold/flu symptoms also;
    • please remember that children may not attend school if anyone in the household is deemed a close or casual contact. They should remain isolated until the affected household member has received an all clear by NSW Health.
  • Any student exhibiting symptoms or feeling ill will be isolated immediately and parents asked to pick them up.
  • All staff and students from Year 5 and above are required to wear a mask indoors while at school.

  • Our campus is closed to all non-essential visitors, including parents and contractors.
  • Any essential visitor must wear a mask and sign in via QR code.
  • Special check-in procedures are in place to minimise contact with and between families and staff.
  • Any essential visitor must obey covid-related signage on campus.
