COVID 19

OUR COMMUNITY

Schools can play an important role which is why GISS is taking proactive steps to spread information about COVID 19 and its potential transmission within our school community.

The health and safety of our students and staff is paramount and thus we are focusing on preventive measures such as increased cleaning, access to hygiene supplies and compliance with hygiene practices as that are outlined here in more detail.

Parents, carers and any non-essential visitors are not allowed on the core campus during school hours unless they have a pre-scheduled appointment for an essential meeting with our teaching staff

WHAT CAN PARENTS/CARERS DO?

  • As always, please keep your child at home if you, your child(ren) or anyone in your household are ill or exhibiting flu-like symptoms.
  • Any student with COVID -19 symptoms needs to get tested and is prohibited from returning to school until a negative test result has been reported to school. Information about symptoms can be found here
  • The department of education encourages members of the community to monitor the NSW COVID-19 website regularly to stay aware of the latest COVID-19 case locations in NSW.
  • Please also remind your children of the importance of proper hand and respiratory hygiene:
    • Thorough & frequent hand washing
    • Cover sneezes and coughs
    • Avoid touching the face
COMMUNICATION & ABSENCES:
  • If your child is absent you can either send a notice via the school app, email absent@giss.nsw.edu.au or call the office.

NO UNNECESSARY VISITS TO SCHOOL

  • GISS has adapted its drop off and pick up procedure to avoid mixing of students and adults. We will also limit campus access in line with the advice from the Department of Education.
  • Parents, carers and any non-essential visitors are not allowed on the core campus during school hours unless they have a pre-scheduled appointment for an essential meeting with our teaching staff.
  • Please drop-off and pick-up without delay.
  • Do not enter campus if you are feeling unwell.
  • Please follow the new signage on campus.
    • Preschool: The drop off and pick up area for the Preschool has been relocated to the front garden entry. Preschool parents may drop off and pick up their child directly from Preschool and can park in front of the Preschool.
    • Primary: Primary School parents are encouraged to park along Myoora Road and pick up students in the designated zone adjacent to the primary school steps.
    • Secondary: Drop off and pick up your child(ren) without delay and stay in your car in our KISS and Drop Zone.
  • Please practise social distancing of 1.5 meters and do not congregate in groups.

REGULAR UPDATES VIA THE GISS APP

  • Please note that GISS is in close contact with the health authorities and continuously monitoring WHO, AIS, Department of Health and Department of Education advisories and actions on information from those official sources.
  • We will provide regular updates via the school app on any further measures that might be necessary. In the meantime, we would like to encourage everyone to practice everyday prevention measures like frequent hand washing, staying home when sick, and covering coughs and sneezes.

COMMUNICATION & QUESTIONS

We will provide regular updates via the GISS school app on any further measures that might be necessary. If you do have any COVID 19 related questions or concerns, please email us directly via health@giss.nsw.edu.au.
