Covid 19

The novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) is continuing to spread globally and health officials worldwide are taking steps to prevent the introduction and spread of COVID-19 into local communities. Schools can play an important role in this effort which is why GISS is taking proactive steps to spread information about the disease and its potential transmission within our school community.

Everyone in our GISS community has a role to play in getting ready and staying healthy. The health and safety of our students and staff is paramount and thus we are focusing on precautionary measures as outlined below:

The best way to prevent the spread of this virus is to practise social-distancing and to employ effective hygiene processes: Frequent handwashing with soap and water or alcohol-based hand sanitiser and practicing proper cough and sneeze etiquette.

When at school please sanitise your hands on the way in and out.

Leave your child at home and seek medical attention if you, your child(ren) or anyone in your immediate family is exhibiting flu like symptoms (or a common cold) or consider yourself at high risk of exposure.

Please note that GISS is in close contact with the health authorities and continuously monitoring WHO, AIS, Department of Health and Department of Education advisories and actions on information from those official sources. We will provide regular updates on any further measures that might be necessary as the situation evolves. In the meantime, I would like to encourage everyone to practice everyday prevention measures like frequent hand washing, staying home when sick, and covering coughs and sneezes.

Kind regards,

Lorenz Metzger
