Extra Curricular Activities (AG) January – June 2010

This year, two AGs will be available for Kindergarten to Year 4.  They will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the 6th and 7th period. This means that all children must choose one AG for each day.

Years 5 through to 8 will only have an AG on Thursdays in the 6th and 7th lessons. 

 

AG-Options – Tuesday (6th/7th period) – Kindergarten to Year 4

 

Creative Dance Theatre (Kiga - Year 2)

Dance AG is about learning to dance! It involves moving the body to music, learning steps and coordination and becoming confident to perform in front of other students, teachers and the general public.

 

African Drumming (Year 1 – Year 4)

African drumming is suitable for students from Years 1 to 4.

We will work on four to six  rhythms for djembe, bell, and dun dun (bass drum).

Students will learn an African chant. and  we will also stage a drumming performance.

Students need to be able to concentrate on learning and remembering the various rhythms, while having lots of fun playing the drums. It is very rewarding for the students to be an important part of a large team of drummers (for beginners and advanced).

 

Wind instruments (Kiga – 4)

Students who are interested in learning a wind instrument or are already playing one are very welcome. After the AG students can make arrangements with Mr. Boky for private lessons (è after school hours).

 

Tennis (Year 1 – Year 4)

The focus during tennis is on basic hitting techniques and rules of the game. Students will be divided into groups according to their ability.

 

Scrap book design using technology (Kiga – Year 2)

Students will work towards producing a book containing photographs that they have taken with a digital camera. Children will then be encouraged to display these using some scrapbooking techniques using a computer. The projects will involve the students in working both individually and in groups where they will have the possibility to be immersed in language. Part of the aim of the course will also be to assist the students to further develop their language skills.

 

AG-Options – Thursday (6th/7th   period) – Kindergarten to Year 8

 

Science Experiments (Year 3 - 6)

Head, heart and hand. The natural sciences offer everything! We will explore phenomena’s from physics, biology and chemistry. When we say explore we mean taking part in hands on experiments, to try and see what’s happening and analysing the results. In the first half-year we mainly cover electricity. Afterwards phenomena from chemistry and biology are on the program.  

The estimated cost for materials is approximately $30.00. All experiments are tangible. They can take them home and demonstrate their knowledge. This AG is open to those students who have not previously participated as the content will be repeated.

 

Badminton/Swimming (Year 5 – 8)

Every week we offer either swimming (TH Swim Centre) or badminton (School Gym). The focus during badminton is on basic hitting techniques and the rules of the game. In swimming the students will be divided into groups according to their swimming ability in the relevant stroke style.

 

Ball games/Swimming (Year 5 – 8)

Every week we offer either swimming (TH Swim Centre) or ball games (School Gym). The focus is on basketball and soccer. In swimming the students will be divided into groups according to their swimming ability in the relevant stroke style.

 

Schulchor (Year 1 – 4)

“Sing and play, move and grove”

If you love music and like to sing songs you love or new songs – join the choir AG! It’s fun! Everything is possible: solo and group, instrument and band and who knows, maybe a short musical play.

Some days we also will join the Creative-AG with (Alexandra DILLINGER).

It’s up to you, so come along and sing!

Boomerang (Year 2 – 7)

In the Boomerang workshop studnets will shape and build several boomerangs of different forms out of 5mm Plywood. After a short flight test they will be painted. During the workshop we will discuss the reasons why a boomerang flies and comes back. At the end we’ll practise throwing them. Students can then  take the boomerangs home. Costs for materials (plywood, sandpaper, paint) will be $25.00 per child

 

Art (Years 3 – 6)

Would you like to learn how to paint, knit, embroider, crochet or make music?

This AG allows you to use your own artistic and creative ideas, handicrafts and also involves the implementation of music. After having an initial introduction to these arts and crafts, students must be able to work independently. Please note this AG does not give the opportunity to learn to play an instrument, but to play with some instruments like Orff instruments (if skills exist) as well as polyphonic  interaction. From time to time we will also be working with the Choir AG. The detailed program and the development of this AG is determined by the participants.

 

Rund um GESUND (Kiga – Year 3)

The topic of this extracurricular activity is about health and being healthy. We’ll learn about food, sing songs, make some craft items and do sports to stay healthy.
