Curriculum
The German International School Sydney was founded in 1989. Our school is an accredited German School Abroad and part of a network of 117 German Schools Abroad in more than 60 countries. In November 2009 our school was awarded the title “Excellent German School Abroad”. The School is structured as follows:

Students with no prior German language skills can enrol in Preschool, Primary School, our English Stream starting in Year 7 and the International Baccalaureate (IB) commencing in Year 11. The IB Diploma is an internationally recognised and highly respected high school qualification which allows students to apply for universities worldwide. At the German International School Sydney the IB is taught in English or bi-lingually by choosing up to 3 subjects in German and 3 further subjects in English.
French is also offered as a foreign language course to students from Year 6. The school follows the German school year calendar. This means that each school year will begin in July/August. The English stream however follows the Australian school year beginning at the end of January.
The German International School Sydney also offers a wide range of extra-curricular activities which allow students to be creative and artistic, enhance musical talents, improve their technical abilities’ and participate in a range of sporting activities.
The education program provided is based on Germany’s school curriculum outline. Starting from Kindergarten our English lessons follow the New South Wales Board of Studies Curriculum requirements.
We encourage our students to develop into responsible young adults.
We consider one of the most important factors to be the ability to create and ensure a bilingual environment with the option to learn another foreign language. In a multicultural country like Australia and in a growing global society, the ability to be bilingual is vital key skill. The learning and development of the German language (both written and verbal) offers students cultural experiences that extend beyond personal life and also offer fundamental benefits for a professional career.
The German International School Sydney is a private school operated by the “German School Johannes Gutenberg” Limited by Guarantee. German Educational Government Institutions support and guide the school with their educational mission of the school. Our School is also assisted by the Australian Government of New South Wales and the Commonwealth respective education departments. The German International School Sydney is registered as a private school by the New South Wales Board of Education.
German language skills are not a prerequisite for enrolment in our school, if students enrol in Preschool or Kindergarten, Primary School or in Year 7 or 11 of our High School program.
