GISS staff meets with German Federal President

Our board chairman Bernd Winter and secondary class teacher Mefdüne Yürekli had the pleasure of meeting German Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his wife Elke Büdenbender in Perth during their first state visit to Australia in early November.

Bernd Winter and Mefdüne Yürekli presented the Federal President with a picture frame showing our Year 1 students carrying their ‘Schultüten’ during our 2017 start of school celebrations. President Steinmeier was pleased to hear that this German tradition is being kept alive and was even more impressed that our ‘Schultüten’ are filled with healthy treats rather than sweets.

Bernd Winter and Mefdüne Yürekli, also language advisor for German schools in Australia that offer the German language certificate called DSD (Deutsches Sprachdilom), were joined by the first graduates of the DSD-II-exams from The Goethe Society Perth. The Goethe Society Perth and our school are so far the only two institutions in Australia that offer the DSD-II-exams.
