On the 20.08.2010 GISS celebrated the opening of our four new classrooms, library and grounds with an official ceremony. After the ceremony an Open Day was held to which the general public was invited.
Our official guests for the opening ceremony were the Hon. John Aquilina, Leader of the House in NSW Parliament; the Hon Bronwyn Bishop, MP for Mackellar; Mr Michael Bartholmei, Deputy Consul General of Germany; along with representatives from both the Goethe Institute and NSW Board of Studies. We also had many visitors from companies GISS is acquainted with and School Principals in the local area.
The short official ceremony began with both the Australian and the German national anthems and was then followed with speeches by official guests and members of the school Board. One of the speeches by the Board members officially thanked the Australian Government for the funds provided through the “Building the Education Revolution. These funds contributed to our new classrooms and library.
The ceremony concluded with the mounting of a plaque on the new library wall.
Following the ceremony, our Open Day (for the general public) then officially began. Many new families took this opportunity to participate in school tours or look in on lessons in our open classrooms. New contacts were established and our visitors were able to gain an insight into GISS.
We will be holding another Open Day on 04.09.2010 along with an Information Night for our English Stream on 09.09.2010.Those interested are more than welcome to come along.
